Wondrous Item, Legendary (requires attunement by a sorcerer, warlock, or wizard)
Bound in the scales of a glacial monstrosity and etched with ancient runes of frost, the Cryonomicon is said to hold the power of absolute cold, but the frigid tome keeps its glacial pages frozen shut, waiting for a mage to truly embrace the truth of ice and forsake fire magic.
The Cryonomicon’s rivalry with the Thermonomicon is legendary. The two tomes were crafted side by side by a forgotten archmage who sought godhood through mastery of the elements. However, when their creator perished in an elemental cataclysm, each tome blamed the other for the loss. For millennia they quarreled across worlds, mocking, challenging, and provoking each other whenever fate brought the mages that held them close.
Yet, beneath their bitter rivalry lies a secret affection that neither will admit. The tomes secretly admire and perhaps even harbor affection for each other but keep their feelings hidden, as each believes the other hates it unconditionally.
