Character: Kona, Gender-Neutral Genasi Lunar Sorcerer, summoning a Tellurium Elemental
Born on a tiny island in the Wayward Sea to a human mother and a father they never knew, Kona (they/them) discovered their latent magical abilities at a young age. At first, simply chilling water when it suited them, they soon moved on to manipulating other elements.
Though they never sought a formal education, their prodigious skill in shaping matter soon drew the attention of Volc, a bitter and lonely sulfur elemental. Volc and Kona worked together to devise an elemental summoning ritual to bring forth a companion for Volc, but the materials were measured incorrectly. Instead of summoning a sulfur elemental, Kona manifested its denser, more dangerous cousin: Luxgeni, a tellurium elemental. Volc attacked the newborn elemental in a fit of rage, but Kona drove him away. Luxgeni bound herself to Kona in thanks. She now acts as their familiar and best friend, and the pair are inseparable.
About Tellurium Elementals:
A slightly toxic and rare metalloid, tellurium shares many chemical similarities with its group 16 siblings selenium and sulfur, but also has some properties of metals. Tellurium is somewhat uncommon in the universe but it’s extremely scarce on the world of mortals, making tellurium elementals a rare sight to behold unless summoned.
Humanoids poisoned by tellurium suffer from dizziness and weakness, and they exude an overwhelmingly pungent garlic-like smell known as “tellurium breath”. Many tellurium compounds are equally smelly, and tellurium elementals will not hesitate to overwhelm aggressive mortals with stinky and poisonous compounds to avoid combat.
Tellurium has two allotropes: crystalline and amorphous. Crystaline tellurium forms silver-white crystals, while amorphous tellurium is a brown-black powder. While crystalline tellurium is resistant to oxidation and does not corrode when exposed to air, amorphous tellurium is corrosive and more dangerous. Tellurium elementals embody this duality, being able to switch between a defensive and somewhat passive crystalline form to an aggressive amorphous form at will.
A few highly advanced societies use tellurium in applications so sophisticated that to the eyes of outsiders seem to blur the line between magic and technology, such as contraptions that harness the power of the sun.
