Creature Spotlight: Magnesium Elemental
Essential to life and abundant in nature, magnesium is one of the lightest solids and the first of the light metals that mortals used in practical applications since lithium and sodium react violently with water and beryllium is toxic.
Magnesium elementals are often friendly and prefer to socialize peacefully with other elementals and approachable mortals instead of fighting. They are less dense than their periodic table neighbors the aluminium elementals, and the two sometimes come together to create strong and lightweight alloys.
Like its alkali metal siblings, pure magnesium has a shiny gray appearance and it’s only found combined with other elements in nature in large mineral deposits and dissolved in mineral water. Magnesium has the lowest boiling point and the lowest melting point of all the alkaline earth metals, and it fractures easily, facts that make magnesium elementals generally careful and averse to dangerous situations.
In powdered form, magnesium is flammable, and if ignited it produces a bright white flame that is hard to extinguish. Artificers sometimes use powdered magnesium to create flash powder for inventions such as flares, fireworks, and other pyrotechnics.
Familiar. At the gamemaster’s discretion, a player character who can cast find familiar may choose the form of a magnesium elemental for their familiar.
