Creature Spotlight: Arsenic Elemental
Relatively abundant and fairy toxic, arsenic is an unusual metalloid that has earned considerable notoriety among mortals thanks to its relative ease of use as a deadly poison. Arsenic is fairly common and usually exists combined with other elements in many minerals, but it can very rarely be found as pure crystals in nature.
Arsenic’s lighter siblings from group 15, nitrogen and phosphorous, are essential to all nonmagical beings, and for some creatures, arsenic is also an essential nutrient in trace amounts. However, arsenic is poisonous to most humanoids even in relatively small quantities.
Despite the dark reputation of arsenic among mortals, arsenic elementals are rather benign and even friendly towards those who treat them without prejudice. However, mortals who approach an arsenic elemental with sinister motives (either to harm it or to use its powers to harm others), risk of provoking the elemental’s dangerously toxic wrath.
