Creature Spotlight: Potassium Elemental
Light, abundant, dangerously reactive, and necessary for most living creatures, potassium is as hazardous as it’s fascinating. Chemically similar to its alkali metal sibling sodium, potassium will react with almost everything and is never found uncombined in nature. Potassium is also the second lightest metal after lithium, and like its smaller siblings it can float on water. However, potassium reacts violently with water, generating enough heat to ignite the hydrogen the reaction produces, which creates a distinctive violet-colored fire that can’t be put out with water.
Potassium reacts quickly with oxygen to form potassium peroxide in mere seconds, and given enough time, potassium and oxygen will form the dangerous and explosive potassium superoxide, a pressure-sensitive salt that detonates if scratched and start potassium-fueled fires that are hard to extinguish.
Mirroring the chemical properties of the element they embody, potassium elementals are fiercely aggressive and almost never shy away from battle, fighting ferociously even against seemingly overwhelming odds.
