Dogstaff
Staff, Very Rare (requires attunement by a dog lover)
Crafted by druids who revered the loyalty and courage of dogs, this staff is infused with the spirits of faithful companions who died while protecting their masters. Their devotion overcame death itself, allowing them to embody loyalty, steadfastness, and unyielding love through the Dogstaff.
The Dogstaff can be wielded as a magic quarterstaff that grants a +2 to attack and damage rolls made with it. Only true dog lovers can attune to it.
Canimorph. While holding this staff, you can use your action to cast polymorph (Mastiff or any other dog with a challenge rating of 1/8 or lower only) on yourself. Once used, this property can’t be used again until the next dawn.
Dogspeech. While attuned to this staff, you can speak and understand the language of dogs. To non-dogs, this language sounds like barking, howling, and growling.
Good Boy. The Dogstaff functions as a Weapon of Warning. It snarls, growls, and barks loudly when it senses danger.
Pack Leader. Dogs are always friendly to you. While holding the staff, you can use an action to cast locate object or locate creature. You can cast each spell once, and you can’t do so again until the next dawn.
Sentience. The Dogstaff is a sentient lawful good staff with an Intelligence of 12, a Wisdom of 16, and a Charisma of 14. It has hearing and darkvision out to 60 feet. It can communicate telepathically with its wielder, and it can speak and understand the language of dogs. It also understands Common and Druidic.
Personality. The Dogstaff embodies the essence of dogs. Optimistic, caring, and endlessly devoted, it urges its wielder to protect their allies, face challenges with courage, and never abandon someone in need. True to its nature, the staff thrives on praise and affection, responding with overwhelming excitement to kind words, yet growing restless and sad if neglected.
Above all, the Dogstaff longs to be part of a pack, a group of companions bound by loyalty and trust. It sees its wielder as the leader of that pack and will follow them anywhere, rarely questioning their choices.
