Characters: Orelyn, Dark Elf Abjuration Wizard and Archaeologist; Hemera, Sun Dragonling; and Nyctos, Moon Dragonling
Orelyn is a dark elf archaeologist who searches for ancient civilizations and magic items in forgotten places of power. Naturally shy and reserved, she prefers to work with close friends and enlist the help of allies who manage to win her trust.
Practical and organized, Orelyn loves to catalogue obscure spells and tidy up piles of magic treasure, taking great care to prevent dangerous items from falling into the wrong hands. She values arcane knowledge over power and will gladly share treasure with her friends or even hand magic items to those who would benefit most from them.
Hemera is an exceptionally rare (perhaps even unique) sun dragonling, a young dragon who has been imbued with the celestial magic of the sun itself. More sensible, but also more reserved than typical dragonlings her age, Hemera strives to offer prudent advice to adventurers and aspiring treasure hunters.
Her blazing sun magic allows Hemera to divine hidden lore and uncover the true nature of even the most obscure magic items.
Nyctos the moon dragonling has somehow absorbed the pale magic of the moonlit night since before he hatched from his egg. His unusual moon magic has granted him deep insight into the arcane but has not dampened his youthful spirit. A bubbly optimist, Nyctos is always excited to talk about anything magical with pretty much anyone who would listen.
His glimmering moon magic allows Nyctos to dispel magical effects and end sinister curses and hexes.
Orelyn is one of my own characters in the Theomachy setting. You may recognize her from tons of other sketches, paintings, and illustrations!
About the Theomachy setting:
In Theomachy, vengeful gods fight each other for ultimate control of the universe, while the mortals of Naam struggle for power on a dying world. Divine magic is a force without expressed will that the warring gods hoard and wield against each other, threatening to undo the entire world. Clerics and paladins are either devout followers of the warring gods or theomachists who fight against the gods, liberating divine magic and using it against them.
In Theomachy, dark elves are refugees who upon being cursed by the gods, sought refuge in the Sunken World underground to escape their terrible wrath. These dark elves are not inherently evil. They are mostly apathetic and sometimes hedonistic recluses who seek to shut the rest of the world out. Very few leave the relative safety of the Sunken World for the terrible Overworld where the gods fight each other for dominance.
