Creature Spotlight: Oxygen Elemental
Tiny, invisible, but dangerous, oxygen elementals are confident in the knowledge that their element is extremely abundant, highly reactive, and essential to every nonmagical creature.
As its name implies, oxygen is strongly oxidizing and will easily react with most other elements to form all sorts of chemical compounds, which also includes corroding metals into oxides. Oxygen is also not flammable, but it can cause many chemical compounds to ignite and burn faster and stronger. Oxygen elementals are keenly aware of these properties and if provoked, they can use their power to make all but the most resilient creatures vulnerable to acid and fire damage.
Dioxygen Elemental Allotrope. At standard conditions, two oxygen elementals can each use their action to bind with each other and form a stable dioxygen elemental. In this state, the two oxygen elementals add their current hit points together, lose their Electronegative Aura trait and their Oxidizing Blast action, and count as a single creature with a calm and stable disposition. The dioxygen elemental can use a bonus action to split back into its two oxygen elemental constituents. The dioxygen elemental’s current hit points are divided evenly between the two oxygen elemental constituents.
Ozone Elemental Allotrope. When particularly agitated, three oxygen elementals can each use their action to bind together and form an unstable ozone elemental, also known as trioxygen elemental. In this state, the three oxygen elementals add their current hit points together, lose their Invisible trait and Visibility action, and count as a single creature. The ozone elemental has a pale blue color and is one of the most powerful oxidizing agents in the cosmos. Its Electronegative Aura extends to 30 feet, and it can use a single action to make three Oxidizing Blast attacks.
As an unstable allotrope, the ozone elemental splits back into its constituent elementals if it takes 40 or more damage in a single turn or after 1 minute. The ozone elemental can also use a bonus action to split back into its constituents. The ozone elemental’s current hit points are divided evenly between the three oxygen elemental constituents. An oxygen elemental can be a constituent of an ozone elemental no more than once every 24 hours.
