Character: Kaelyn Rayne, Half-Elf Eldritch Knight
Kaelyn believes in a balance between duty and happiness, and between the community and personal growth. If one is solely following their duties at the expense of happiness, you will be less efficient. If you choose only your happiness, then you are shrinking your duties. If you make everything you do about the community around you, then you will neglect to grow yourself, but if you focus on personal growth above all, then you ostracize yourself from your community.
As a half-elf, Kaelyn knows about the prejudice toward her people from the stories of the others in her hometown, although she has not felt these effects. However, upon joining the academy, she began to see this prejudice herself, in the eyes of the other student, and even a few of the teachers. Despite this, Kaelyn herself doesn’t suffer any forms of prejudice, having grown up surrounded by various races, beliefs, and political views, all of which were able to function seamlessly together. Kaelyn’s biggest problem is in her propensity to attach to others just a bit too quickly and her ability to hold a grudge against any small betrayal for too long.
Kaelyn’s father taught her how to be brave and strong, how to persist and fight for her beliefs, to gain experience in everything, and use that experience to keep herself balanced and unflappable. Her father also instilled in her the belief that she could choose who to care about. This has led to her attaching to others quickly and easily want to care for everyone she sees.
