Peasant Knowledge of Gorg
Folk wisdom warns that giving in to hate, anger, and self-righteousness invites the god of war into one’s heart. Detached from the comforts of civilization, tribespeople and outlanders are particularly vulnerable to the Wargod’s influence, urging them to spill blood in its name. In the heat of battle, Gorg may endow a particularly savage warrior with supernatural might and relentless rage, and many seemingly defiant barbarians secretly rely on Gorg’s channeled fury to fuel their own rage.
Some fables describe Gorg as a humongous, armored figure that can’t be defeated in battle, while others say that Gorg is a formless, genderless fiend of unlimited fury and ambition.
Focusing its rage against every other god, the God of War commands vast armies of war-crazed humanoids and dreadful monsters, its forces growing stronger with every creature that gives in to bloodlust. These armies terrorize entire nations whether they are faithful or defiant, razing settlements and spreading violence and chaos indiscriminately.
Scholar Knowledge of Gorg
Many historians claim that Gorg first emerged to lead a million strong army of demons and monsters millennia ago, while theologians argue that the concentrated divine strife of the cosmic war between gods, Theomachy, made the Wargod manifest among the pantheon of Naam. Regardless of its origins, most scholars agree that Gorg’s magic is unmistakably demonic, a hellish influence from beyond the world of mortals.
As the God of War, Gorg grows stronger with each violent conflict, and many sages warn that waging war against the Wargod is folly, for it cannot be defeated by the very means that empower it.
Brutal and merciless, Gorg does not demand worship and adoration, and neither does it pamper its faithful with material gifts and comforting words. Every battlefield is a temple to the Wargod, and the screams of the slain are the only prayers it understands.
Apocryphal and Forbidden Knowledge of Gorg
While raging followers claim that Gorg is undefeatable and unfearing, wise mortals who have resisted its belligerent influence know that even the Wargod is not without weakness. A disciplined mind or a peaceful soul is enough to make a mortal immune to Gorg’s fiendish influence, and while the God of War itself is said to be invincible, its armies can be defeated, and its power weakened upon the world of mortals.
Veteran theomachists advise that a solid defense works best when facing creatures imbued with Gorg’s demonic rage, and while many such creatures are resistant to enchantments and illusions, they are still susceptible to guile and deception.
On a cosmic level, theosophists believe that the only thing that scares Gorg is the possibility that Bruth, the ancient god of destruction, will one day rise again and spell the end of its dominion over war and bloodshed.
