Character: Styrimir Uverdig, Aasimar Storm Herald Barbarian and Tempest Cleric, Channeling his Storm Aura
Once upon a time, Styrimir was a Planetar of Thor. He prided himself as a mighty warrior, an exemplary example of Thor’s might and power. He believed himself strong enough to be elevated to Solar.
Styrimir's pride and arrogance were apparent to Thor. An arrogance he himself once suffered from until his father found a way to humble him. So, Thor summoned Styrimir to council. Concerned at the hubris of his Planetar, Thor tried to talk him down from his aspirations. Yet Styrimir was far too headstrong, especially for an angel, and refused to back down. Finally, Thor came to an agreement with Styrimir: he would prove himself worthy of his claims in combat against a Solar under Thor’s command. Should he succeed he would be made a Solar, but should he fail at his task, he would be cast out of Ysgard to Faerun as a mortal; and would be required to earn his wings back should he wish to return to Ysgard.
In his pride, Styrimir accepted the challenge. In the battle, he fought with all of his might and ability against the Solar; but in the end fell short, unable to make the Solar yield or acknowledge his worth. And so was cast out of Ysgard, to a realm where the Aesir held little influence (save for Tyr). His descent was like that of a falling star to the surface of the Sword Coast, south of the city of Baldur’s Gate.
In his now mortal form, he maintained the majority of his great stature. The locals who found him believed him to be an Aasimar of Goliath birth; though he had no memory of who or what he truly was. Only a name, and a cause. Styrimir, the one who must prove himself worthy.
He worked some to earn his keep, too proud to accept charity, until he was ready and equipped to become a warrior once again. So, he set out to prove himself the greatest hero the Sword Coast has ever known. The moment he grasped the hilt of his new great sword, a memory flashed in his mind. A memory of a beautiful sword, radiating light and crackling with all the power of a raging storm. Then, he saw a falling star, followed by the blade shattering before him. Shards of the sword flew outward from the bulk of the star. The shards scattered all over the land and beyond. Styrimir felt that this to be a vision of the gods, foretelling his destiny. He must now set out to find the shards of this magnificent blade and restore it. Only then could his aspirations be within his grasp.
